EXPLANATORY NOTES


SOFT ARTIST'S QUALITY PASTELS

All paintings and drawings and produced using a combination of the highest quality Artist's pastels available.
I choose the pastel maker for different colours from my experience with their products.
These typically include Sennillier, Schmincke, Rembrandt, Pan, Art Spectrum, Faber-Castell and Conte.

ACID FREE 100% COTTON PAPER

All paintings and drawings are produced on 100% Cotton paper, Acid free and Mould made.
I prefer to work with papers around 300 g/m2, however I sometimes use a lighter paper if necessary.
Typically I produce my work on Saunders Waterford Aquarelle or Aqarelle Archers papers. I will
sometimes draw on Fabriano Artistico, which has a much smoother surface and doesn't hold pastel well.
I always paint and draw from a white or cream surface, it uses a lot more pastel but provides an unrivalled
luminescence to the colours.

SIZES AND FIXATIVES

I do use limited Artist's Quality Workable Fixative spray during the painting process.
I very rarely apply a fixative spray to the final layers of a painting as it tends to reduce the pastel's brightness.
